The collimated display allows the observer to experience a simulated reality at distances greater than 10 meters although the simulator screen to eye point distance is about 3 meters.
The challenge with respect to display system is to achieve the positioning of the projectors within the back projection screen and meet the requirements regarding brightness, contrast, luminance and resolution.
MOD is setting up a display system consisting of 5 projectors especially designed for 11 foot collimated displays.
This system offers trainees a realistic environment and of course is equipped with our night vision capability. That means the projectors stimulate the naked eye with visible light as well as night vision goggles with near infrared light.
